Fair usage policy (FUP) for hotspot and PPPoE: slow down, not cut off
A fair usage policy stops a few heavy users from slowing everyone else down, without cutting anyone off. In VunaFlow it is set per package.
How it works
- Set an allowance on a package, for example 100 GB, and the slower speed after it.
- Hotspot: counted per voucher for its whole time.
- PPPoE and static IP: counted per billing period, or per day with a reset at midnight Nairobi time.
- When the customer passes the allowance, the router moves them to the slower speed. When the period resets or they renew, full speed comes back.
- You see each customer's usage and who is currently slowed down.
Hard limits too
If you prefer a hard cap, a hotspot package can stop at its data limit instead. Data bundles sell a fixed number of megabytes.
Who it affects
Only packages you set it on. Packages without an allowance behave exactly as before.
Frequently asked questions
Does the customer get disconnected at the limit?
No. With FUP they stay online at the slower speed. Only a hard data limit disconnects.
Can PPPoE allowances reset every day?
Yes. Choose a daily allowance and it resets at midnight.
