PPPoE billing software in Kenya: automate M-Pesa renewals, suspend and restore
If you run home fibre or wireless PPPoE customers on a MikroTik, most of your month goes on the same three jobs: reminding people to pay, checking M-Pesa messages to see who paid, and logging into the router to switch customers off and back on. PPPoE billing software does those three jobs for you.
What PPPoE billing software should do
- Keep one record per customer: name, phone, package, speed and expiry date.
- Create the PPPoE secret and speed profile on the router for you, so you never type them in WinBox.
- Send reminders by SMS or WhatsApp before the expiry date, with the amount and how to pay.
- Take payment by M-Pesa paybill with the customer's account number, or by an STK prompt from a renewal link.
- Extend the expiry and switch the customer back on the moment the payment lands.
- Switch the customer off automatically when time runs out, without disconnecting anyone who has paid.
How it works in VunaFlow
- Connect your MikroTik once. VunaFlow reaches it through its own secure tunnel, so it works behind CGNAT, Starlink and 4G with no public IP.
- Create your packages, for example 5 Mbps at KSh 1,000 for 30 days. VunaFlow creates the matching speed profile on the router.
- Add customers. Each one gets an account number and a PPPoE username and password, created on the router automatically.
- Before expiry, the customer gets a reminder with your paybill, their account number and a renewal link.
- When they pay, the expiry moves forward and the router switches them back on, usually within a minute.
- When time runs out, the router switches them off. You see who is online, who is due and who has lapsed on one screen.
What it costs
VunaFlow charges KSh 15 per active PPPoE customer per month, plus KSh 500 per MikroTik router. An active customer is one whose time has not run out; customers who have lapsed are not billed. There is no minimum fee and no percentage of what your customers pay you. For example, 40 PPPoE customers on one router is 1100 shillings a month in total.
Moving customers from another system
You do not have to retype everyone. You can import your existing PPPoE customers from a spreadsheet with their usernames, passwords, packages and expiry dates. Customers keep connecting with the same details.
Before you switch
- Check your MikroTik runs RouterOS 6.45 or newer.
- Have your M-Pesa paybill or till ready; payments go straight to it, not through us.
- Decide your packages and prices, and whether customers renew on a fixed date each month or 30 days from payment.
Frequently asked questions
Does VunaFlow take a cut of my PPPoE payments?
No. Customers pay into your own paybill or till. VunaFlow charges a flat KSh 15 per active PPPoE customer per month plus KSh 500 per router.
What happens when a PPPoE customer's time runs out?
The router switches their PPPoE login off automatically. When they pay, it switches back on, usually within a minute, with no one logging into the router.
Can customers pay with an account number on my paybill?
Yes. Each customer gets an account number. A payment to your paybill with that account number renews that customer automatically.
