ISP billing software pricing: flat per router vs a percentage of your sales
When you compare billing systems, the monthly figure on the pricing page is only half the story. The other half is how the price grows as your business grows. There are two common models.
Model 1: a percentage of your hotspot sales
Many systems take a share of what your customers pay, often around 3%, plus a fee for each PPPoE customer and a minimum monthly charge. It looks cheap when you are small. As your sales grow, so does the fee, even though the system is doing the same work.
Model 2: a flat fee per router
VunaFlow charges KSh 500 per MikroTik router per month and KSh 15 per active PPPoE customer, with 0% of your hotspot sales and no minimum. Your bill only changes when you add routers or PPPoE customers.
A worked example
Take an ISP with one router, KSh 50,000 of hotspot sales a month and 10 PPPoE customers. On a 3% model with KSh 25 per PPPoE customer, that is KSh 1,500 + KSh 250 = KSh 1,750 a month. On VunaFlow it is KSh 500 + KSh 150 = KSh 650. If hotspot sales double to KSh 100,000, the percentage model rises to KSh 3,250; VunaFlow stays at KSh 650.
Other costs to check

- Whether payments go straight to your till or paybill, or are held and paid out later.
- What happens if you stop paying: do your customers lose internet, or only your dashboard?
